San Francisco's Chinatown was established in the 1840s and one of the oldest Chinatowns outside of Asia. Transamerica Pyramid Transamerica Pyramid is the second most famous icon of San Francisco, after the golden gate bridge. Pereira, a pyramid is an ideal shape for skyscrapers, offering the advantage of letting more air and light in the streets below. Finished in 1972, this iconic structure has a height of 260 meters (853 feet) and is still the tallest building in the San Francisco skyline.
Alcatraz Island Alcatraz Island One of the most recognized attractions of the city. This old jail complex originally opened in the mid-1850s as a US military fort. In the early 1900, it's become a military prison and in 1934, a high-security federal penitentiary. Visitors can easily recognize many of the prisoners that served time on "The Rock." The most notable include Al Capone, Robert Stroud, and Machine Gun Kelly. The prison shut its door in 1963 however; it opened again for public tours in 1973. In tickets to visit Alcatraz includes a ferry ride to and from the island, a self-guided audio tour and a chance to explore several other buildings.
Golden Gate Bridge The world-famous Golden gate bridge is the identity of the city. This 1.7-mile marvelous structure connects San Francisco with Marin County and points farther north. The bridge opens just before the dawn and closes after dark each night. Originally finished in 1937, the bridge opens its gates daily for the public to admire its beauty. After a walk, don't forget to visit the small museum on the southern San Francisco side. In the museum, you can learn more about bridge including some fun facts and history about it. You will also find a gift shop, snack shop, and a small restaurant on the same side.
